Informatiedag menstruatiearmoede Universiteit Antwerpen

UAntwerpen neemt menstrueren bloedserieus.

Doctoral scholarship holder for an interdisciplinary PhD in Sociology and Philosophy

The Department of Philosophy in the Faculty of Arts and the Department of Sociology in the Faculty of Social Sciences are looking for a full-time doctoral scholarship holder for an interdisciplinary PhD in Sociology and Philosophy.

Position

  • You will work actively on the preparation and defence of a PhD thesis on the topic of sexual harassment in Flemish higher education. In the context of this project you study the discourse on sexual harassment within a Flemish university and relate this to international debates (in feminist philosophy and sociology, among others) on normative and conceptual questions concerning sexual harassment. You use this information to organize a sensitization workshop on this theme. As the project is part of a European research project, your findings also contribute to a European comparison.
  • You will publish scientific articles related to the research project.
  • You will carry out a limited number of teaching and research support tasks for the research groups within which you will be appointed.

Surviving Academia: conversations on our well-being

On March 30th, Sophia’s Junior Network is organising another event! ‘Surviving Academia: conversations on our well-being’ will be an afternoon get-together for Master’s and PhD students with the focus on sharing experiences of navigating the academic world. We will explore the impact that academic culture can have on our (mental) well-being as young scholars and reflect on ways to cope within this high-pressure, competitive environment. By sharing our lived experiences, we might find recognition and inspiration in each other’s stories and hopefully make meaningful connections.

During this day we will provide a brave space to think about new ways of relating to ourselves and each other within the broader structures of academia. How can we be more present, connected and embodied while facing academic expectations? In what ways can we take care of ourselves and others? And what changes could we make in our own personal environments in order to create a space in which we can thrive? Also, more broadly: How can we find ways to collectively address and transform toxic structures within academia? What alternatives might there be to the dominant, neoliberal model of knowledge production and distribution?

Have such questions been on your mind as well? Or would you just like to expand your network within the field of gender studies? Please feel free to join us by registering here.

Also, in case you are not a member of the Junior Network yet, and you would like to be, you can find more information about it here.

Schrijfsessies project Wikipedia Amazone

Sessie 1:

Maandag 8/05 (9:30-12:30 of 13:30 tot 16:30)

Woensdag 10/05 (9:30-12:30 of 13:30 tot 16:30)

EDGE recruits 3 pre-doctoral and 3 post-doctoral researchers

EDGE recruits 3 pre-doctoral and 3 post-doctoral researchers. EDGE is a strategic research programme of the Vrije Universiteit Brussel. It explores innovative solutions that deliver new ways of political decision-making that help both effectively tackle real-world challenges to democracy and strengthen European democracies. EDGE is concerned with challenges to democratic governance in general, and more precisely with

  • issues arising from the problematic discrepancy between short-term political cycles and the need for long-term solutions to environmental crises;
  • the disconnect between citizens and the formal actors and institutions of representative democracies;
  • the gap between the promise of democratic values of equality and non-discrimination, and democracies’ failure to establish intersectional equality.
